A Passion for Men’s Hairdressing

Leala began her journey in hair from a young age. She quickly progressed to cutting her three brothers hair when just a teenager, where men’s hairdressing became a passion. 

Leala began her career at the Farnborough college of technology, residing as an apprentice at a little salon called ticketyboo. For three and a half years, she develped her skills for advanced colouring and fashion hair cuts. Although  Leala liked the appointment basis and high end service of the salon life, she knew she had to follow her dream of specialising in men’s hair and flew the nest to take on another qualification in men’s barbering, to refine her skills in men’s hair and shaving that just couldn’t be achieved with her salon training. 

A Luxury Barber Shop - The Vision

After qualifying in barbering, although very proud of herself for achieving her qualifications, she couldn’t help but feel like something was missing from her barbering life and continued to perform colouring and chemical services from her home salon! She couldn’t help but feel that even though she knew she preferred men’s hair, the barbering concept and industry was dated and not keeping up with the times. She missed the luxury of the salon service, the organisation of the appointment basis and the longer appointment times to give the best service. It was then that Leala realised there was a huge gap in the market to  bridge the gap between the classic Barbershops and High end Salons.

A New Concept in Male Grooming

This is when Leala began to plan her own unique barber shop. That not only offered all aspects of cutting edge men’s hair and shaving services, but also the chemical and colouring services that the barber shops just don’t offer! Not to mention the longer appointment times that mean customers leave feeling that extra bit special. 

For 7 years, alongside planning her dream shop and never knowing how she would ever get there, Leala worked all over the South East of England, searching for her perfect workplace that could accommodate her unique skillset. She contacted hundreds of salons over the years, trying to find one that would take her on to specialise in luxury men’s hair, or a barbershop who would allow her to perform all the extra services she could offer but to no avail. 

In 2020, Leala decided enough was enough and that she had to pursue her dream. Leala waited patiently for 2 years for available premises in the perfect location, and thus, The Bulldog Barbershop, luxury barbers and colour house was born!
